Hello, world!
Hi! I’m Laura and I work as a software developer. I worked in an admin role for many years and changed career in my thirties so I’m still relatively early on in my adventures in tech – my first development role was in 2021. Tech is a very male-dominated area to work in (this will be news to no-one) and when I was thinking about moving into software development I was given lots of conflicting pieces of advice and opinions. Just about everyone I knew in tech was male and the vast majority were younger than I was. I had no network to reach out to for support and no-one whose journey I could really relate to. It can be lonely out there, trying to find your place in the world of tech. I have heard “be the role model you wish you’d had” more than a few times now and it’s time to step up and give back.
This is my first go at writing and I’m really excited to share my thoughts, adventures and wins (generally small but every win counts) with you. This is really a collection of thoughts as I muddle through navigate my way through my journey in tech, I might dip my toes into some more practical posts but working in tech has introduced me to all sorts of new experiences and challenges apart from coding, including networking, mentoring, public speaking and organising events so I’m constantly finding out new things about myself. If any of my ramblings help you out in any way I’ll take that as a big win! I’d love to hear your thoughts and find out about your experiences so feel free to comment on any posts or connect with me on LinkedIn. If you’d like to know a bit more about me, my journey into tech and my life outside of coding check out the About Me page.
